Targeted Smoking Cessation Programme
Being a major reason for the borough’s high levels of premature morbidity and mortality, smoking is one of the most important changeable factors that can address health inequalities in Tower Hamlets.
The aim of this project is to ensure robust referral pathways for tobacco users are in place within clinical settings and community groups. This is being achieved by providing very brief advice (VBA) training in smoking cessation for front line staff, training in the use carbon monoxide (CO) monitors, which can improve the quantity and quality of referrals into smoking cessation support, and the provision of accessible nicotine replacement therapy (NRT) within secondary care.
